GPA Formula – How Is GPA Calculated?
The formula for calculating GPA is:

How much GPA will I get if I just pass every subject of physics cycle with very low internal marks?
If you just clear all your end semester exams with very low internals, you might end up with a five point something. If you think you are gonna get straight E’s in most of the subjects, it’s better to take the makeup exam for the subjects you think you could’ve scored well if you had the time.
This is a bit of a gamble which worked out for me for a subject in one of the semesters and helped me get a C grade ( the maximum grade that you can get in the makeup exam). This is a calulated risk. But you to have make sure that you are well prepared before the makeup exams.
How do I calculate my high school GPA?
You can request an unofficial transcript from your school registrar, which will list all your high school grades and usually your GPA.
Or, you can find a website to calculate it for you, if you know all your grades since freshman year. And you’ll need to know whether you’re trying to find your weighted or unweighted GPA.
Weighted means honors, AP, college, and other advanced/weighted classes count for one more point than a normal class. So an A in honors biology would be 5 points, while an A in regular biology would be 4 points.
Unweighted means all classes are valued on the same point scale. An A is 4 points, a B is 3, a C is 2, a D is 1, and an F is 0.

How do you calculate your college GPA?
Each class will have a specific amount of credit points, be it 1, 2, 3,4… or even 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 etc. You will then receive a letter grade for each class. Each letter grade corresponds to a number. The most widely used system is: A/A+ (4.0) A- (3.7) B+(3.3) B (3.0) B- (2.7) C+ (2.3) C (2.0) C- (1.7)… etc.
F is of course 0.0. You take the number of credits in a class and multiply it by the number that corresponds to the letter grade you got (for example if you receive a B+ in History which is 3 credits, you would multiply 3.3 by 5 and get 16.5). You do this for all your classes and then add up all of the products and divide by the sum of the total amount of credits you are taking. The result will be you cumulative GPA for the classes you calculated this GPA for. Some grading scales are different (for example Cornell has A+ at 4.3) but the method of calculation is uniform throughout.
How is the cumulative GPA calculated in college?
Your college must have a system like this for a final grade in each course:
A = 4.0
B = 3.0
C = 2.0
D = 1.0
F = 0.0
If it is not exactly this, it will be something like this. I will use this one as an example. If yours is different, you have to use your point system.
Each course also has a certain number of credits associated with it. In the semester system, it is usually 3 semester credit hours per course, but it could be 1, 2, 3, or 4 (or some other number).
For each of the n courses you have completed to date (this does not include the courses you are taking right now), do the following calculation:
[(Grade Points for Course 1) multiplied by (Credit hours for Course 1) +
(Grade Points for Course 2) multiplied by (Credit hours for Course 2) +
(Grade Points for Course 3) multiplied by (Credit hours for Course 3) +
…
(Grade Points for Course n) multiplied by (Credit hours for Course n)]
Divided by the total number of credit hours you have completed.
That is your cumulative GPA to date.
How is my final high school GPA calculated?
All GPAs are calculated in the same way. At the end of each grading period, your counselor or registrar tallies up each of your grades. Every A grade counts as 4 points. Each B gets 3 points, on down to an F, which earns 0. We add up the number of points you have earned and then divide by the number of courses taken.
At the end of the semester, or year, we do something similar, in that each letter grade Carrie’s the same number of points, but we multiply each grade by the number of credits earned and then divide by the number of credits attempted. Depending on your school district, a full year course might be worth 1.0 credit, 5 credits or even 10 credits. The number of credits required for graduation in your school district will of course vary also. Usually high schools require something close to 24 full year courses for graduation.
Your Cumulative GPA, which is probably what you are calling you final GPA, is calculated in exactly the same way, using all of points earned from the courses you’ve taken, multiplied by the credit value of each course, and divided by the number of credits attempted.
For most high school students, you have time blocks for each school day that don’t usually change from year to year. As long as you have attempted to earn the same number of credits each school year, your final CGPA will be the average of each of your yearly CGPAs. But if you have filled any of your time blocks with non-credit courses like study hall, that method doesn’t work.
If your school offers bonus points for AP/IB courses or used a +/- grading system, we add in all of those bonus points and calculate your Weighted GPA or WGPA.
Most schools use a computer-based Student Information System that actually does all of the calculations, these days.
